The release expands on the original sleeve art collections created by Jayne Peña in a digital art works booklet. The lyrics for Dark, Kid Rainbow!, SubHuman and 7/8 are included. The art creates an organic balance in contrast to the oft times prism of experimental collective of tone and accent. “Jayne’s work really emphasizes the progressions and grounds my abstract. It’s a good reflection of us.”.

DNF's pandemic-period recordings were created from various base camps in his home in Austin, Texas and were accompanied by “analeptic movements from my animated children”.

The gapless concept album opens with Permanently Busy, a reflection on the boiling frog apologue. The slow burn mindset of submitting to a vapid, mechanical existence bookended by birth and death. The defiance of this drudgery thru embracing Life is depicted in the second movement, Dark —ironically the least experimental piece that might be considered the most commercially approachable. This ethos of driving negativity out from a mind at war with a positive psyche is more easily consumed in Dark than the grit illustrated in the industrial Subhuman. The title track Kid Rainbow!, he added, “underscores the importance of realizing the need to rise above the randomness of circumstance to control your destiny.”. The balance of the self-produced album rewards the careful listener with his meticulous instrumentation, sampling and sound creation. A pure recording artist.

Kid Rainbow would be too easily described as an electronic album. The work is densely layered and leaves no room for wandering attention. In the end, the experimental — at times — progressive music, borrows from decades of rock, electronic and IDM music.
